Heart Wishes

The best way to receive God's Heart is to spend time with Him. At Heart of God Ministries, we believe that prayer should be a vital part of every person’s life. It is not just a process of telling God what you want or need. Prayer is a process of coming before God’s presence, speaking well of Him, meditating on His Word, reminding yourself of His promises to you and listening to what He has to say. Prayer often involves making the Great Exchange of your issues for God’s spirit and virtue. There is power in agreement and we want to stand in faith with you. However, we would like to let you know what we consider “off limits” prayer requests.

Imprecatory Prayers

Yes, “imprecatory” is a spelling bee word. Imprecatory prayers are petitions of control or manipulation. If you want your loved one to become a Christian, you should not pray for them to be unable to rest all night long. Likewise, you should not pray for God to kill them so you’ll know that they are in the cemetery and not running wild in the streets. (I know someone who actually prayed that prayer. Sad, sad, sad…) Sin is only pleasurable for a season. It will eventually take a toll on your loved one’s body, mind and spirit. They will feel a nagging void that will only be filled by life in Christ. We don’t need to offer God unhealthy suggestions on how to do His job. God says “no” to imprecatory prayers - and we agree.

Coo-Coo for Cocoa Puffs Prayers

A young woman who works for a ministry call center told me the funniest story that I’ve ever heard. She said that a lady called to request prayer for her dead cat. The cat had given up the ghost and uttered its last meow. This tragic turn of events left the owner distraught beyond belief. She had tried self-imposed methods of resurrection but it was to no avail. She thought that perhaps her cat would be revived if someone in the ministry prayed with her. She placed the carcass on her dining room table and called in her prayer request. Her faith was strong but significantly misplaced. The call center ministry team had to send a mass email to inform everyone about the Deceased Cat Whisperer. Now, please don’t misunderstand me. I love animals. I’ve always had dogs and I miss my beloved German shepherd, Ebony. However, as Disney’s Lion King says, we have a beautiful process called the circle of life (reproduction). Please don’t send us any coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs prayer requests. We will laugh and then we will email you back to say that “we are unable to process your request.”

Great Genie in the Sky Prayers

Do you want a spouse? Get in prayer line #4 with an offering. Are you trying to trade in your mid-size car for an SUV? Run around the car lot three times with your eyes closed. Spin around in a circle, point your finger and open your eyes. Your new vehicle will be directly in front of you. Are you unemployed and your mortgage is due? Instead of looking for work, take your Publisher’s Clearinghouse envelope into your prayer closet and believe God for a breakthrough. You’re sure to get that fateful knock on the door in no time.

These examples sound hilarious but unfortunately, some people believe that this is a healthy manner of praying and believing. God is not a genie in the sky. He desires for us to get to know His Heart deeply and intimately. When we seek His Face and His Heart, He will release what is in His Hands. He wants to know that we are fiercely loyal to Him and that we want Him because He’s wonderful. So, we won’t be praying any Great Genie in the Sky prayers at Heart of God Ministries.

Please make sure that your heart’s desires are aligned with God’s will. If you’re unsure, it’s okay to email us and ask.
